Friends of the Easy Chair know we take coffee roasting and preparation very seriously, even if we don’t take ourselves too seriously. So it is only appropriate that we have been Tooned by Klaus Shmidheiser of Plaid Avenger fame. Klaus is one of the many interesting, talented characters who drop by the coffee shop each day.

Yep, that is my image. What’s shocking about it is that I have never revealed my superpowers – the ability to levitate magic cupcakes – to anyone. How did you get this information Plaid Klaus?? Despite the loss of secrecy, I’m flattered and honored and intend to be a good cartoon character from now on. You can help by voting for my Toon. College! Coffee! Now What?!

The end of summer is always bittersweet in the New River Valley. Sleepy towns become hubs of activity as students return to Virginia Tech, Radford and New River Community College. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and making new friends. Over cups of coffee, of course. To our returning fans, welcome back. We’ve missed you. To our newest community members, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a small group of dedicated baristas and coffee roasters who have served the coffee loving community around Blacksburg for over 14 years.

Enough about us. Now you are HERE. You need to do two things: defend yourself from zombies and choose a coffee shop. We can help with these critical life choices. Think about it. Where will the zombies attack first? The hole-in-the-wall, awesome micro-roaster in a 1970’s era shopping mall that is built like a bunker? Or will they likely go to the brightly-lit chain where they can feast on caffeine-starved humans who double-parked their SUVs without a thought to an escape plan? We’re almost out of hyphens, so I will just answer this one for you: The Easy Chair is the most zombie-proof coffee shop in Blacksburg. See? It’s like an open book test.

You are here, NOW. You chose Virginia Tech and Blacksburg and we are glad you did because we think this town is pretty cool and safe from zombies. If the undead do attack and you find yourself barricaded, then you are going to need coffee. We’re here for you. Don’t let the zombies win. Choose a coffee shop that will be open when all the other shops are closed.
